Hearing Aid and Hearing Testing Specialists Serving the Ortega Community in Jacksonville, FL

Do you believ you may need hearing aids? If so, then your first step will be to have a comprehensive hearing exam and The Hearing Center at JHBI has everything to serve your needs.

Our team of audiologists will provide you with the helpful information you need to be able to make a solid treatment plan. Depending on your hearing testing results, we will work with you to come up with the best treatment options for your lifestyle needs.

These options may or may not include fitting for hearing aids. We offer a wide variety of hearing aid technologies and popular hearing aid brands. Each style of hearing aid is available with features to meet all of your needs.

In general, hearing aid costs depend on the features or the technology you choose for your hearing aids, not their styles. Digital hearing aids come in levels ranging from basic to advanced and each level has it’s own set of features.

Things to consider when selecting a hearing aid style:

Our hearing aids are made up of three components: a microphone, an amplifier and a speaker.

Microphone receives the sounds that are converted into an electrical signal to be sent to the amplifier. The signal is increased by the amplifier. and the signal is sent through the speaker.

Though all hearing aids share the same essential pieces their configurations can vary. The configuration affects the style of the hearing aid. Some hearing aids are configured so the components fit entirely in the ear canal while others are designed to fit over the ear or behind the ear.

Whatever style you  choose depends on your hearing test evaluation and your lifestyle and activities you participate in and personal preference. Although styles vary greatly, cost is not a typical factor.

Our Common Hearing Aid Types

Customized Hearing Aids

Customized hearing aids fit directly into the ear and all components are kept within a shell that is molded to your ear canal. The benefits of this type of hearing aid is ease of use with phones and the convenience of keeping all components within the ear.

Behind the Ear Hearing Aids

The more common style of hearing aids that peopel wear are the over the ear style. All oomponents are in a case that sits outside of the ear and sounds are relayed to the ear using earmolds or tubing.

Another version that is becoming more prevalent is a style with the speaker in the ear, while the microphone and amplifier are in a case worn on the ear. Depending on your level of hearing loss you can have custom made earmolds that will deliver sound to the ear.
